Question 5:

How did you attract/address your audience?

Front Page:
I chose red, black and white as my colour scheme because it fitted the UK oriented style and because of the contrast these colours have against each other, which make it easy to emphasize the parts of the page I want to. Red also has very aggressive, violent and dominant connotations which I wanted to use to attract rock music fans since rock music is so heavily linked to rebellion and violence.
Also linked to rock’s association with aggressiveness is my font choice. The majority of font on my front page is eroded and battered-looking which again has the implication of being battle-worn and therefore should attract fans of the rock genre.
In terms of the image, I took the photo in limited light to make it seem more dramatic and intriguing and when editing I increased the contrast slightly to add to this effect. Generally, rock fans like this dark, mysterious style.

Contents:
Both pages:
Both pages feature the text in a darkened column to the right of the main image. The text is white with titles in red to fit with the colour scheme and carry across that aggressive, rock’ n’ roll style from the front page. The main title uses an embellished font to stand out despite being fairly small.
First Page:
Again I kept to the colour scheme to seem dominant and dark, this time having a desaturated background to really highlight the main image. On this image I again increased the contrast to make it more dramatic and shadowy. The font for “Axl Vicious” is slanted and graffiti-like which gives a rebellious and riotous flair to the image.
The bottom right sticker is the dark red to keep with the colour scheme and stand out without being overpowering. It also features eroded and damaged-looking fonts and has a peeling off effect to seem worn and again battle-worn like the front page.
Second Page:
My main image features a rock band at a concert (here I have named them “Bleeding Mercury”) this would interest rock fans to find out more about them or if they already know the band to find out more about the concert. Below this I have another image with “Lindsay Robin” and details on my main story from the front page.

Double page spreads:
This keeps a very similar colour scheme to my other pages except here I used less red, and more black and white and grey to make the page more subtle and stylish in comparison. This also gave the image more emphasis.
For quotes I used a hand-writing-like graffiti font to, like in my first front page, give the page a rebellious flare and make this quotes stand out against the rest of the image. For the other fonts I kept it simple and readable as to not draw attention away from other parts of the page
My first image is very large to make a big statement, I gave it more contrast and took it in a fairly dark setting to make it seem dangerous and mysterious but I also increased the brightness in editing because I found this gave my model more emphasis.
My second image is smaller than the first and is also brighter to again, display my model as well as I could. She also wears a leather jacket to give the image more of a ‘rockstar’ vibe.
